SUMMER WILL BE UPON YOU BEFORE YOU KNOW IT ! Like everyone else, I have been battleing to get my Online Pool Store up & running for this summer but it will start to appear later in the first week of May 2000. So I am no better organised than most. In the Northern Hemisphere, if you don't have a pool & are trying to make a decision on when & what to install, then you have to get organised before the heat hits. You will find most pool builders already have lists of pools to install & the longer you take, the later in summer before you start to swim. I would suggest that you have a read through all my notes on pool construction prior to purchasing a pool, just so you know what needs to happen. If you are thinking about building your own pool, then have a look at our Online Pool Shop after next week end, (6-7th May) we will have an option which can be handled by most do it yourselfers. OPENING YOUR POOL FOR THE SUMMER, Then remember, don't add all sorts of chemicals at one time, especially algacides & chlorine as they may negate the effect of one another. Simply follow the notes in our OPENING FOR SUMMER web page. This is all covered in "SUMMER 2000" WINTERIZING YOUR POOL THE SOUTHERN WAY! I WILL LEAVE THIS INFORMATION UP FOR THIS MONTH AS WELL.
April-May in the Southern Hemisphere is Autumn and time to think about getting the pool ready for winter. This year don't let the pool become a murky green mess over winter, the following advice should help: Install a time clock so that you can have the pump run for a couple of hours at least one day a week. - Use a good strong algacide which will last at least half the winter period and top it up in July. - Before using the algacide or before putting on a pool cover, make sure the pool is perfectly clean and give it a shock dose of chlorine (3-5 times a normal dose). - If you dont have a cover, make sure to remove leaves etc from the pool once a week during winter, The cost & time involved in keeping the pool clean over winter is about 1/4 of the cost and time of cleaning it up in Spring and the pool is much more pleasant to look at in the back yard when it is clean during winter.
