| WINTERIZING YOUR POOL THE SOUTHERN WAY! March in the Southern Hemisphere is Autumn and time to think about getting the pool ready for winter. This year don't let the pool become a murky green mess over winter, the following advice should help: Install a time clock so that you can have the pump run for a couple of hours at least one day a week. - Use a good strong algacide which will last at least half the winter period and top it up in July. - Before using the algacide or before putting on a pool cover, make sure the pool is perfectly clean and give it a shock dose of chlorine (3-5 times a normal dose). - If you dont have a cover, make sure to remove leaves etc from the pool once a week during winter, The cost & time involved in keeping the pool clean over winter is about 1/4 of the cost and time of cleaning it up in Spring and the pool is much more pleasant to look at in the back yard when it is clean during winter.
