| SUMMER IS FAST APPROACHING ! In the Northern Hemisphere it must be warming up, I can tell from the number of emails I am receiving. Most people are saying the same thing, "I let the pool go green over winter, what do I do now ?". The other Question I get a lot is "Can I open the pool myself or do I have to get a Pool Service Company to do it?" - Yes you can do it your self! As well as providing all the information you need in our "SUMMER 2000" page, we will have our on line Pool Shop up & running in the next two weeks, this will feature a number of products which will help you get the pool up & running & keep it clean for the entire summer Important Tip: If you have let the pool get very green over winter, clean it up in the following order: 1. Physically remove all solids on the bottom with a leaf rake. 2. Floc all the floating solids to the floor. 3. Vacuum to waste. 4. Filter out all light debri. 5. Add chemicals as needed. This is all covered in "SUMMER 2000" WINTERIZING YOUR POOL THE SOUTHERN WAY!
April in the Southern Hemisphere is Autumn and time to think about getting the pool ready for winter. This year don't let the pool become a murky green mess over winter, the following advice should help: Install a time clock so that you can have the pump run for a couple of hours at least one day a week. - Use a good strong algacide which will last at least half the winter period and top it up in July. - Before using the algacide or before putting on a pool cover, make sure the pool is perfectly clean and give it a shock dose of chlorine (3-5 times a normal dose). - If you dont have a cover, make sure to remove leaves etc from the pool once a week during winter, The cost & time involved in keeping the pool clean over winter is about 1/4 of the cost and time of cleaning it up in Spring and the pool is much more pleasant to look at in the back yard when it is clean during winter.
